Culture of Safety

Safety Policy

E.N. Bisso is a responsible employer, committed to providing a safe and healthful workplace for all employees. The safety goals for all employees, regardless of position, are:

ZERO INJURIES
ZERO ACCIDENTS
ZERO POLLUTION

The safety of persons, vessels, and the environment are to be given greatest consideration in reaching any decision, or in the undertaking of any operation. A primary responsibility of supervisors is the safety and well-being of employees. No supervisor may ever be relieved of this solemn responsibility.

The safe operation of company vessels depends upon the combined skills and experience of work teams, the observation of applicable laws, rules and regulations, and safety procedures established for all personnel.

While the responsibility for enforcing safety compliance rests largely with Captains and other officers, it is a matter of concern for all employees. Each employee, afloat and ashore, is to ensure that safety practices are obeyed.

The following of safe work practices is a condition of employment for all employees. No work assignment or task is to be attempted unless each employee involved has followed every reasonable safety precaution and rule.

Certified as a Responsible Carrier

As a member of the American Waterways Operators, E.N. Bisso subscribes to the Responsible Carrier Program, a safety management system that exceeds government regulation.
